I am becoming a broken record over here at Jackson’s EyeTV about the importance of including people with autism in employment settings. It’s just that as Jackson is getting older, and school is about to be completed, it leaves a gaping hole in his schedule and life. What comes next? is a question that keeps many a special needs parent awake at night. Enter policy and attitudinal changes I hope.
One of Jackson EyeTV’s “SuperFans,” Kim Usey sent me this article about Presidential candidate Mayor Pete’s initiative for disability inclusion. He highlights the lost potential of leaving people with autism and other disabilities out of the employment landscape.
Hats off to candidates for thinking about the importance of people with disabilities. May more leaders in the US and all over the world start to think about ways/programs/services that improve the lives of those living with a disability. Let’s provide our friends, family, neighbors with chances to participate and contribute to our communities!
