I don’t think that many people realize that art is a form of communications, particularly for people that we consider Intellectually or Developmentally Disabled. We created Jackson’s EyeTV website as a place for people to learn about the importance of “listening” to art as a communication in the same way that we would listen to a conversation.
Our son Jackson has always been “communicating”, even when he could not speak. Luckily, he was able to begin using verbal language at around age 5, and as he gained more and more language (through YEARS of speech therapy), he was able to better explain his art and what it meant to him. And once he gave descriptions to some of his work, you can see that tremendous levels of meaning are inherit in his visual images. We are pleased to share these “communications” with you through this website.
Best, René
